While commuters were cursing hazardous driving conditions Tuesday morning in the metro area, those who have Thanksgiving plans to ski were celebrating because the storm system has been a timely boon for resort snow totals.
Telluride, which officially opens Thursday but has an unofficial opening on Wednesday as a fundraiser for the local ski and snowboard club, received 12 inches. The resort tweeted a warning to locals Tuesday morning that they should “expect to hear live firings of the avalanche mitigation cannon from the ski resort,” which is always welcome news for powder-hungry skiers and riders.
Wolf Creek also received 12 inches. Keystone scored big-time with 10 inches overnight while sister resort Breckenridge — less than 10 miles away as the crow flies — reported only half that. Loveland reported 9, Winter Park 8 and Arapahoe Basin 7. Aspen and Monarch reported 5.

Eldora, which opened Monday, also fared well.
“Our first official powder of the season is here,” said Eldora spokesman Kyle Ogilvie. “We’re stoked. Three inches as of 6 a.m., 6 as of 9 a.m., and plenty still coming down. We’re hoping this will help us open more terrain today and throughout the week.”
In addition to Telluride and Eldora, which opened Monday, the list of ski areas opening this week includes Telluride, Aspen, Snowmass and Crested Butte.
